Karjalanpaisti – Finnish Hot Pot

Ingredients
250g/9oz Chuck (Stewing) Steak
250g/9oz Stewing Lamb
250g/9oz Pork Shoulder
2-3 Onions, roughly chopped
1½ teasp Salt
8 Allspice Berries, roughly crushed
Water

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 170C, 325F, Gas Mark 3.

2. Cut the meat into 5cm/2 inch cubes then layer the meat and onion in a casserole, seasoning each layer with salt and allspice.

3. Add enough water to almost cover the meat then bake uncovered, for 2 hours.

4. Cover the casserole with a lid of foil and continue to bake for a further 30-45 minutes. Serve hot.
